Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Magnetic resonance imaging is often considered the gold standard of neuroimaging due to its high spatial resolution and ability to image brain structure, as well as function/connectivity.  MRI has been readily used in developmental research, and BCH has extensive expertise testing children in infancy and early childhood. We are collaborating with the National Institutes of Neurosciences, Dhaka to utilize their Siemens 3T scanner.  We have also installed audio/visual presentation equipment from Avotec to run functional MRI studies, which can assess the brain activity of children while actively responding to specific tasks.

In BEAN, MRI is conducted in infants (age 2-3 months), as well as in 5-year olds.
